McKesson vip Award image

Toronto (July 11, 2007) - UHN, in collaboration with Shared Information Management Services (SIMS), has won the much coveted 2007 VIP Award in the Innovator category.

The only Canadian winner, the SIMS Patient Portal team received the award for its online patient portal, which has been highly successful in improving the overall care experience for breast cancer survivorship patients. The portal gives patients an electronic glimpse of their patient chart, and also provides an online support community, educational materials, and links to resources. The SIMS Partnership is now expanding the program to other UHN areas, including diabetes and chronic kidney disease.

McKesson is an international health care services and information technology company that provides health care information technology services for hospitals, physicians and homecare. The annual VIP Award recognizes five health care organizations for their use of information technology to achieve substantial results in areas of quality, safety, and efficiency.

This is the second award for SIMS in the last two months. On June 12, the Emergency-General Internal Medicine Transformation Project team received the prestigious 3M Health Care Quality Team Award for their work in creating unique and sustainable solutions to improve patient flow in the Emergency Department.
