Number 1 – What might people be surprised to learn about you? • My first job was as a nursing orderly at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie. Being responsible for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, care after death and other roles had a big impact on me as a teenager.¬¬ Number 2 – What advice would you give your 25-year-old self? • There is no linear career path to follow. The most interesting opportunities that will present themselves cannot be pre-imagined. The job you will be doing has not yet been created. Number 3 – What’s your favourite hobby? • I love to write. You can probably find me in a quiet moment writing in libraries and cafes all over Toronto, and everywhere that I travel. Number 4 – What was your childhood dream job? • Believe it or not, I always wanted to be a doctor. I told my grade 9 guidance counselor that I would be a physician. A close second was music (I was an oboist) and I was studying seriously well into university. Number 5 – What’s your favourite place to travel to and why? • Paris is my favorite place outside of Canada. When I speak French I always feel that I am on vacation. I have taken two sabbatical years in Paris and I continue to teach at the University. The history and culture has always inspired me. Number 6 – Do you have a favourite author? Anything by Herman Hesse for pleasure; anything by Michel Foucault for inspiration. Number 7 – Do you have a New Year’s resolution? • No – I don't believe in once-a-year resolutions. Number 8 – What are you most excited about in your new role? • The integration of the Michener Institute with UHN is the most exciting thing to happen in healthcare and education in Canada in decades!
