The 7th Annual South Central Ontario Hospital Challenge runs from July 1 to Sept. 5, 2016 A few facts about blood: Every person’s body contains 5 litres of blood 450 ml. of blood is collected in one unit O negative can be transfused to anyone in need AB positive can accept donations from any blood type The national blood collection goal for the Canadian Blood Services is 835,000 units It can take 8 units of blood a week to help a person battling leukemia A healthy individual can donate every 56 days, about 6 times per year 100,000 new donors are needed every year to meet demand Half of hospital blood donations occur during the Annual South Central Ontario Hospital Challenge
