Last week I was privileged to attend UHN's LGBTQ+ Open House. We heard powerful and moving stories from patients and staff that reminded all in attendance about the importance of creating a safe, inclusive environment for everyone who comes through our doors. I am so proud that we are putting important supports in place to help us achieve this; from the development of educational resources, training, and a website, to the creation of an HR Policy on Gender Identity, and an LGBTQ+ committee. We are so fortunate to be part of such a diverse community and it's important that we both celebrate and support all communities at UHN. I am proud of the work we've done, but I know there's more we must do to ensure we are creating an environment free from stigma, discrimination or harassment of any kind both for our patients and our staff.
Celebrate our new Purpose, Values & Principles (PVP) this week!
This week marks an important milestone on our
journey of renewal: we are
unveiling UHN's new Purpose, Values & Principles. This is the culmination of all our efforts and I greatly appreciate the time each of you took over the past year to engage with this incredibly important process. Your thoughts, ideas, and feedback have been instrumental in shaping our PVP, and our organization's future.
This PVP truly belongs to all of us in the UHN community, so I hope you'll stop by one of the celebration events happening this week – please note there has been a change in venue for the Toronto General and Toronto Western celebrations (schedule below). The events will include refreshments, a pop up photo booth, and posters of staff, patients, and volunteers sharing how they are living out our new PVP. There will also be PVP tree posters, where you can leave your thumbprint and sign your name. So please join me, members of our senior leadership, and UHN's patient partners as we celebrate our new
Purpose, Values & Principles.
