After being referred by your surgeon, you will visit our clinic at least 24 hours before your surgery.
We ensure that educational information is available to you and your family prior to your surgery so that you are fully informed about your impending hospital visit.
We also evaluate your health, identify risk factors and, if necessary, implement measures to prepare higher-risk patients for elective surgery. Our interprofessional team works collaboratively on your assessment.
During your pre-admission visit, we may determine that further testing, including echocardiograms, stress tests and cardiology consults, is needed before your surgery. We will make every effort to complete these procedures in a timely manner.

Our Telehealth services allow our patients who live outside of Toronto and who will be visiting one of our hospitals for surgery to complete their pre-admission assessments from their local community. This helps to cut down on the costs and inconvenience that can come with travelling. Ask the Pre-Admission Clinic staff if your pre-admission assessments can be completed using our Telehealth services. Learn more about Telehealth services.
