What We Do

Our clinic is the only centre in Canada that provides diagnostic testing and care for patients with malignant hyperthermia. This hereditary disease can cause severe fever and muscle contractions in susceptible people who receive general anesthesia and can be life-threatening. Malignant hyperthermia can also result in kidney failure.

We assess individuals who are at risk of carrying this disease and provide them with genetic counseling, genetic testing and CHCT testing.

In addition to our work with patients, we also advise and provide resources to health care professionals.

  • Caffeine halothane contracture testing (CHCT)
  • Genetic testing and counselling
