Your follow-up appointments

Following up with all your doctors is important after your operation. Before you leave the hospital we will talk about your 3 follow-up appointments:

Your first appointment

Within the first week after your operation. You are responsible for scheduling this appointment.

Your family doctor’s office.

What to Expect
This appointment will let you doctor see how you are feeling. This is important for measuring your progress at future visits. If you have any problems, your family doctor or nurse practitioner will help or will refer you to your surgeon and/or cardiologist.

What to Bring
Your health card and a list of any medications you are taking.

Your second appointment

About 4 weeks after your operation.

Your cardiologist’s office. Call the first week you are at home to make your appointment. If you are followed by a cardiologist at the Toronto Centre for Adult Congenital Heart Disease, the clinic will call you with an appointment.

What to Expect
You and your cardiologist will discuss your operation and plan recovery.

Your third appointment

About 6-8 weeks after your operation.

Your surgeon’s office. Call your surgeon’s office in about 6 weeks to make an appointment. The number to call will be on your discharge letter.

What to Expect
You and your surgeon will follow up, to discuss your operation and recovery.
