Following up with all your doctors is important after your operation. Before you leave the hospital we will talk about your 3 follow-up appointments:
WhenWithin the first week after your operation. You are responsible for scheduling this appointment.
WhereYour family doctor’s office.
What to ExpectThis appointment will let you doctor see how you are feeling. This is important for measuring your progress at future visits. If you have any problems, your family doctor or nurse practitioner will help or will refer you to your surgeon and/or cardiologist.
What to BringYour health card and a list of any medications you are taking.
WhenAbout 4 weeks after your operation.
WhereYour cardiologist’s office. Call the first week you are at home to make your appointment. If you are followed by a cardiologist at the Toronto Centre for Adult Congenital Heart Disease, the clinic will call you with an appointment.
What to ExpectYou and your cardiologist will discuss your operation and plan recovery.
WhenAbout 6-8 weeks after your operation.
WhereYour surgeon’s office. Call your surgeon’s office in about 6 weeks to make an appointment. The number to call will be on your discharge letter.
