How to Get Referred

You need a referral from your doctor to become a patient at the UHN Breast Reconstruction Centre.

When making a referral, your doctor will include:

  • A letter of referral
  • A reason for referral
  • Latest dictated clinical note or summary of the patient’s relevant medical issue
  • Please indicate clearly if patient has already had mastectomy and is seeking delayed breast reconstruction or immediate breast reconstruction with mastectomy.

How Long Does a Referral Take?

The referring doctor's office will call you with the appointment information. The referring doctor's office is responsible for providing the patient with the appointment information, including time and location, and important documents, test results and imaging that they must bring.

Patients with DCIS or breast cancer for immediate reconstruction are booked for appointment within 2 (two) weeks. BRCA positive for immediate reconstruction or delayed reconstruction will need to wait longer.

Note – we do our best to accommodate upon Surgeon availability.
