Quality & Safety in Radiation Therapy
Radiation Medicine constantly evolves, pushing technological and scientific boundaries at a rapid pace. Professionals experiencing significant changes in technology and practice remain vigilant about maintaining the safety of novel approaches while improving the quality of care using proven approaches and reconciling patient satisfaction and outcomes with fiscal responsibility. This course aims to expose learners to the overarching principles that comprise a program-wide approach to quality and safety and proposes a variety of tools and approaches that learners immediately experience to help advance their own practice along the quality continuum and provide insights to be brought back to their local program. Quality and safety are responsibilities of every member of the team. As such, our course takes an “inter-professional, team-based” approach to its curriculum and shares knowledge and ideas that will underpin the development of awareness and understanding so that everyone can contribute to an overall vision for delivering the highest quality care in the safest manner. Acknowledging this as an area of significant clinical interest, we believe our content positions the next generation of radiation medicine professionals to think critically about quality and safety in the face of rapid innovation.
At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Employ quality nomenclature and processes to address and minimize treatment-related incidents
- Manage change in light of innovation in terms of people, systems, and processes
- Develop and implement a programmatic quality framework
