Nipissing University Scholar Practitioner Program

The Scholar Practitioner Program is an innovative second-degree nursing program for university graduates who would like to pursue nursing at the BScN level. It also offers a way to become a nurse that is highly learner centered and responsive to changes in contemporary health care. The premise of the program is that nurses need to be clinically competent and theoretically sound thinkers as developing "scholar practitioners." This program prepares graduates to carry out knowledge work in a holistic healing relationship, to serve individuals and larger communities at home and internationally, and to generate new forms of knowledge to support inter-professional health-care practice.

At The Michener Institute of Education at UHN, we frequently say “We are all teaching … We are all learning.”

Much of our learning comes from those we serve – our patients and our learners – through two innovative programs: the Patient Partner Program and the Learner Leadership Advisory Committee.

Patient Partner Program

The Patient Partners Program recruits, selects, orients, and provides skill-building for UHN patients and caregivers, in order to contribute to important hospital planning and decision-making activities. For more information visit the Patient Experience page.

Learner Leadership Advisory Committee

The Clinical Learner Leadership Advisory Committee (LLAC) provides a novel opportunity for learners to contribute their unique perspectives to educational and organizational planning and processes while strengthening their leadership skills in areas such as:

  • Making specific recommendations to improve learners’ experiences
  • Participating in strategic planning and other design sessions
  • Contributing to organization-wide events
  • Participating in committees
  • Adding perspectives in focus groups
  • Participating in learner and UHN staff leadership initiatives across The Michener Institute of Education at UHN campuses, etc.
