COVID-19: Information for Learners

TeamUHN is working to keep our patients, visitors, learners, staff & community safe as we respond to COVID-19. Please ensure you've checked our COVID-19 homepage for more general updates and information before coming to any of our sites. Entrances may be closed or on restricted access.

Specific updates for learners will continue to be posted below.

Information for Clinical Learners at UHN

Effective Monday, March 16, all unpaid, pre-licensure clinical student placements/learning (including part time and full time placements, on-site half day clinical visits/labs) will be paused.

This pause in placements and all other on-site clinical learning will be in effect until at least until July 6. We recognize that there may be an impact on future placements, and we will look to mitigate this as possible.

As hospitals gain stability in some areas, there may be select opportunities for clinical learners enrolled in academic programs to gain clinical experience in alignment with their learning goals through virtual means.

Support is available to students or by phone and email via the Education Leadership teams at each of the hospital sites, with additional resources on our Learner Assistance page.

The Science of COVID-19 Portal

The UHN Science of COVID-19 Portal is here to provide educational and clinical resources you can trust in this time of change. The volume of information – and misinformation – on this coronavirus is overwhelming.

The UHN and Michener Library Network is collaborating with partners across our organization to build the Science of COVID-19 Portal. The Portal curates reliable, authoritative sources of information to facilitate knowledge mobilization and enable our institutions to deliver the best health care, provide the best education, and lead research to end this pandemic.

On the Portal, you will find:

  • General epidemiology, virology and research resources.
  • Emerging Evidence: a place where you can ask questions on the science of COVID-19.
  • Resources aimed at clinicians needing to "upskill" to critical care or being redeployed to unfamiliar areas of practice.
  • Self-care aids to help you maintain wellness and resiliency during this pandemic.

Access these resources, and more, on the Science of COVID-19 Portal.

Resources are constantly being added to the Portal. For more information, please email Tim Tripp, Director, UHN Library & Information Services.
