What Makes Us Special

What do our telehealth patients say? A survey of telehealth patients was conducted during the week of November 4-8, 2013, to assess patients’ satisfaction with Ontario Telemedicine Network services used by the Telehealth Program at UHN.

  • 95% felt as comfortable receiving care through telehealth as they would have in person.
  • 100% would use telehealth again

​​​Saving our Environment

As well as improving person-centred care, telehealth has a positive impact on the environment. For example, in 2010, by using telehealth appointments, we eliminated more than 750,000 km of travel and prevented more than 185,000 kg of greenhouse gas emissions from cars.

 

Leading the Way

We are committed to adopting innovative technology to improve care for patients, as well as to helping establish best practices in telehealth throughout Ontario and Canada.

Recent achievements include:​

  • UHN implemented new personal video-conferencing technology with select clinicians as a pilot project in the fall of 2012. This technology allows clinicians to use video conferencing from the convenience of their own personal computer or laptop.
  • In the fall of 2012, our Telehealth Program team presented its work to the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) to help contribute to the development of the CPSO's updated telemedicine policy, and Dr. Peter Rossos of our Telehealth Program spoke to the Canadian House of Commons Standing Committee on Health as it explores the future of technology in the deliv​ery of health care.​
