U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders visited the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre with a mission to better understand the Canadian, single-payer healthcare system.

The visit was the last stop of a Saturday tour that included three city hospitals: Women's College Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital and Toronto General Hospital. Senator Sanders was accompanied by Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne.

The Senator met with cardiac and vascular patients currently in hospital, and took part in a question and answer session with former patients, patient-partners and medical staff.

Dr. Barry Rubin, Medical Director, PMCC, Dr. Tirone David, cardiac surgeon, and cardiologists Dr. Heather Ross and Dr. Michael Domanski shared their experiences treating patients under the Canadian model of care.
