CIHR funding announcement
Results of the third round of the CIHR Foundation Grant Program were announced this week. This program was designed to provide long-term funding for exceptional new and established health research leaders in their pursuit of innovative and high-impact research programs. I'm proud to share that UHN researchers received eight of the 76 grants awarded across Canada, with a success rate nearly double the national average (UHN 24 per cent; national average 13 per cent). With this announcement of eight new awards, UHN now holds a total of 23 Foundation Grants.
Please join me in congratulating our UHN recipients from the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (Drs. Cheryl Arrowsmith, John Dick, Mitsu Ikura, Rama Khokha, Aaron Schimmer, and Gang Zheng), the Krembil Institute (Dr. Robert Chen) and Toronto General Hospital Research Institute (Dr. Myron Cybulsky). Thanks also to the RSS (Research Solutions and Services) teams who assisted with these applications.
UHN nurses recognized by the Canadian Nurses Association
We are incredibly fortunate to have such a strong team of nurses at UHN. In celebration of Canada 150, the Canadian Nurses Association is honouring
150 nurses across the nation who are pioneers in health innovation in Canada and across the world. I am very proud to announce that seven nurses who work at UHN are recipients of this honour, and I am so glad they are being recognized for their hard work and commitment to our values. Please join me in congratulating these remarkable nurses for this achievement—you truly are transforming lives and communities every day.
