In a message to staff, Dr. Bob Bell, President & CEO, UHN, writes that in the 6 months since integration, "there’s been a lot of activity with a focus on building a single corporate infrastructure and organizational culture. Based on the progress we’ve made to date, I’d say we’re well on our way to achieving those objectives.

Ontario’s first cardiac stem cell transplant performed at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre
PMCC physicians performed the first cardiac stem cell transplant in Ontario last week using stem cells derived from the patient’s own bone marrow, isolated completely within the operating room, and implanted into the heart at the time of coronary bypass surgery.

First procedure in Canada to reduce high blood pressure in patients who don’t respond to anti-hypertension drugs
A new procedure offers hope to the quarter million Canadians for whom drugs to lower blood pressure are not effective. Doctors at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre (PMCC) today performed a minimally invasive surgical procedure to treat high blood pressure, called renal denervation, for the first time in Canada. The procedure can significantly reduce high blood pressure in patients who cannot effectively treat their hypertension through drugs.
