Students - Environmental Information

Welcome to the University Health Network, not only a leader in healthcare and medical research, but also in corporate environmental responsibility. The Hospital, through it’s Environmental Policy, has committed itself to “protecting and enhancing the environment”.

As a student member of the UHN community, there are several, easy ways you can help the Hospital honour this commitment:

  • Familiarize yourself with UHN’s Recycling, and Disposal of Biomedical Waste procedures.
  • Turn off lights when you’re the last to leave a room.
  • Recycle! Recycle! Recycle!
  • Ensure that Biomedical Waste, including sharps, is disposed of safely.
  • Be proactive...if you see a problem, take the time to get it fixed!

The most important thing to remember is that only through the participation of everybody at UHN will we be successful. Though you may not care about recycling, your waste disposal habits can ruin it for those who do care. And one needle carelessly thrown away can make a coworker seriously ill and result in large fines for the hospital.
