Nursing Informatics - Medication Order Entry/ Administration (MOE/MAR)

The MOE/MAR project implemented both electronic medication order entry and an electronic medication administration record as part of the Electronic Patient Record. The redesign of workflow and the elimination of transcription has improved patient safety.

MOE/MAR is live in all inpatient areas at TGH and TWH. A separate initiative brought OPIS (Oncology Patients Information System) to the outpatient areas at PMH to provide electronic access to chemotherapy protocols and electronic medication administration documentation.

We continue to work with our SIMS partners to improve medication safety by reducing the number of medications documented on paper. Collaborating with our nursing collegues we assist nursing units to achieve and maintain best practices surrounding medication preparation and delivery.
