What should I do the day before my surgery?
  1. DO NOT eat any solid foods or milk products after midnight on the night before your surgery.
  2. Drink clear fluids only, 4 hours prior to your surgery:
  3. Examples of clear fluids you can drink:​​​​
    •  Apple juice
    •  Beef or chicken broth (no noodles or vegetables)
    •  Jello or popsicles
    •  Water
    •  Cranberry juice
    •  Pop (such as Ginger-ale, 7-Up) 
    •  Lemonade
    •  Tea

    TIP: By drinking warm fluids such as tea or broth you may not feel as hungry.

  4. Pack a bag for the hospital, including important items such as:
  5. Toiletries

    • Comb and brush
    • Toothpaste and toothbrush
    • Razor and shaving cream
    • Denture cleanser and cup
    • Body wash or soap
    • Deodorant
    • Tissue


    • Loose-fitting clothes
    • Loose non-slip footwear (such as Velcro runners)
    • Underwear


    • A list of current medications
