How to get referred
You need a referral from your doctor (another specialist like your neurosurgeon or family physician) to become a patient at the CNS (Central Nervous System) clinic at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
When making a referral, your doctor will include:
- A letter of referral
- Acurate, up to date contact information for you, along with your healthcard number.
- Clinical notes including a final pathology report if you have had surgery, information about other treatments you may already have had for your brain tumour (ie. surgery, radiation therapy or chemotherapy).
- Copies of relevant blood work.
- Copies of MRI and CT scan reports as well as a CD copy of all imaging (MRI or CT Scan) done related to your brain or spinal cord tumour. The CD can either be sent to the consulting physician’s office by the referring physician, or given to the patient to bring with them to the appointment.
How Long Does a Referral Take?
Usually the doctor who referred you to the CNS Clinic will contact you with your appointment time. Call the referring doctor’s office if you do not receive information about your appointment within a couple of weeks.
