Michael was a gifted young man who was making advances in biochemistry research during his Master's degree at the Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research (McMaster University). During his studies he was diagnosed with lymphoma. He passed away from his cancer at the age of 25. Because of Michael's love for research and his family's support towards initiatives that will improve the quality of AYA cancer care, this award has generously been established by the Hart family in Michael's memory to further research in AYA oncology.
Research in AYA oncology can span many disciplines including, but not limited to, pediatric oncology, radiation oncology, hematology, medical oncology, psychology, nursing, social work, psychiatry, kinesiology, reproductive biology, and palliative care.
The AYA Program and MKH Fund is offering a seed research grant to facilitate or support feasibility studies, self-contained studies, or projects that have the potential to generate data to inform larger studies.
