Volunteer Training
Our comprehensive volunteer training curriculum provides volunteers with the technical and counseling skills necessary to support cancer patients and their families in each Resource Centre. Volunteers receive a comprehensive, easy to read, training manual, three half-day training seminars, and nine-hours of computer practice, role-play and evaluation. Volunteers are instructed on how to provide computer assistance to users, manage resources, and support patients in a manner that demonstrates respect, compassion and empathy.
The departments of Volunteer Resources, Psychosocial Oncology and Patient Education at PMH, as well as Wellspring, a community organization with an expertise in peer support training, collaborated in the development of this volunteer assisted initiative.
