HOW TO GET REFERRED

A referral can be sent from your family doctor, nephrologist or dialysis centre. Once we receive some basic tests and bloodwork, we will begin your evaluation for a kidney transplant.

When we have the complete referral package, we will call you to book an appointment through FASTRAK in our Kidney Transplant Clinic.

Speak to your healthcare team about getting referred to the Kidney Transplant Program at Toronto General Hospital.

Patients can also self-refer to our program. When we receive a self-referral, we will contact your dialysis centre or doctor and work with them to have tests and bloodwork completed as needed.

How Long Does a Referral Take?

Once we receive a referral package, we will call you within two to three business days.

If the referral package is not complete, we will work with your doctor and dialysis team to complete your referral. It may take a few days to a few weeks to complete all the tests required for the referral.

Our goal is to complete your evaluation for kidney transplant within 90 days of receiving a complete referral package.
