Every patient at UHN is impacted by the tests performed at LMP – and almost all diagnoses and treatments are based on lab results.
Our laboratory can determine diagnosis, prognosis and therapy for individual patients in a way not previously possible with conventional approaches, often using specific cancer markers. Our five clinical departments are:
Study of tissue and cells for the detection of disease, such as cancer and cardiovascular disease. Also includes histocompatibility testing.
Study of chemical components including hormones and drugs in blood and body fluids.
Study of blood clotting mechanisms and blood and bone marrow disorders, such as anemia and leukemia. Also includes one of Canada's most advanced blood transfusion laboratories.
Study and genetic analyses of patient samples for both inherited and acquired diseases. A key component to advancements in personalized medicine.
Study of bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites that invade the body and cause diseases such as SARS and West Nile Virus.
Our Lab Reference Guide provides health care professionals with information about the more than 450 tests that we conduct.
