Welcome

On behalf of the Course Directors, I would like to invite you to participate in the 22nd Annual International Symposium on Adult Congenital Heart Disease. This Symposium reflects a long partnership between the faculties of Oregon Health Sciences University, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Centre/University of Cincinnati and University of Toronto. It is a unique forum where medical professionals can meet their colleagues from around the world, and exchange ideas and information in the growing field of Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD).

International faculty and attendees have gathered annually to educate, learn and receive updates about the latest innovations in diagnosis and management for Adult Congenital Heart Disease.

The following hot topics amongst others will be discussed: the Fontan disease - diagnostic and therapeutic challenges of a systemic disease, end of life and supportive care (advanced care) – an ignored challenge and urgent need in our growing population, pulmonary hypertension in congenital heart disease, arrhythmias, catheter-based interventions, new techniques in imaging, aortopathies, heart disease and pregnancy.

I expect the Symposium to provide the best of science and education in this area of practice. The Program is designed for all healthcare professionals working with Adult Congenital Heart Disease and should familiarize participants with the latest clinical information on the diagnosis and management for ACHD. Nursing will also have a major organizational and educational role within this Program.

Erwin Oechslin, MD FRCPC
Chair of the Course Directors
