Through the Krembil Neuroscience Centre and Toronto Western Research Institute, research activities are focused on new treatments for patients with: diabetic neuropathy, inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (acute and chronic), and myasthenia gravis (MG).
Basic science research includes investigations into:
- Autonomic nervous system control and quantitative sensory function
- Electrophysiological testing and electrodiagnostic evaluation
- Aldose reductase inhibitors, non-specific metabolic drugs,
- Neurotrophic factors
- Phospholipase kinase C inhibitor
- Transcervical thymectomy
Clinical science research includes investigations into:
- Immunomodulation therapies
- Clinical testing for diabetic neuropathy in the general diabetes clinic or physician's office.
- Immune suppressive agents in the treatment of patients with autoimmune neuromuscular disorders.
