What is Lip and Mouth Cancer
Cancer of the lip and mouth starts from cells on the surface of the lip and mouth.  These lining cells are called squamous cells and the type of cancer that you get when normal cells start to divide in an uncontrolled way is called squamous cell carcinoma.

Lip and mouth cancer make up about half of all head and neck cancers and most cases happen in the lips and tongue, according to the National Cancer Institute of Canada.
