The lip and mouth has many parts and cancer may be found in any one of them.

The lip and the mouth include: 

Upper and lower lips
Tongue
Floor of the mouth
Upper and lower gums
Roof of the mouth (hard palate)
Inside of the cheek (buccal mucosa)
Are behind wisdom teeth (Retromolar Trigone)

The lip and mouth let you taste, chew, and swallow food.  The lip and mouth are also important when you breathe, form words when speaking, smile and make other facial expressions.
