What is a diagnosis?
Once your symptoms have been recognized, your doctor will do a number of tests to make a diagnosis.

A diagnosis is the name given to a disease based on its signs and symptoms.

Once a definite diagnosis of cancer has been made, it is important to know the stage of your cancer.

Knowing the stage of your cancer helps decide how advanced the cancer is and whether it has spread to any other parts of the body.  It will also help you decide which treatment will work best for you.

The stage of a cancer depends on its size and how much it has spread to other parts of the body.

The less a tumour has spread, the better the prognosis or outcome of treatment
