The Spanish Mental Health Program (SMHP) serves the Spanish-speaking population living in the Metro Toronto Area, the Greater Toronto Area and cities in South Western Ontario. This population is made up of immigrants from 21 Latin American countries.

Program Objectives

provide culturally sensitive mental health services to the Spanish-speaking community in the patient's native language
provide a holistic biopsychosociological approach to our mental health services
provide psychotherapy and pharmacological treatment to the patient and family in order to facilitate a return to living in the community

Program Services

Psychiatric Assessment leading to a Treatment Formulation Plan and formal written report to the referral source (family physician or other)
Medication Management
Brief Solution-Focus Therapy / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Case Management for Chronic Mental Illnesses
Family Support and Education
Community Liaison-consultation
Referral to community resources when needed, such as: family doctors, , anger management groups, issues around domestic violence, parenting education, housing, social services.
