The Toronto General Hospital Mini/Modified Eating Disorder Assertive Community Treatment Team (MEDACTT) provides treatment to seriously and persistently mentally ill individuals with eating disorders. We work collaboratively with community mental health agencies and primary care physicians to serve the needs of this population.

Following a referral from the client's physician, a team-based assessment and an individual care plan will be developed in collaboration with the client. This approach to treatment reduces the frequency of hospitalization for medically and psychiatrically unstable clients by closely monitoring them in the community in collaboration with primary care physicians. It also reduces duration of hospitalization by bolstering continuity of care and facilitating transition of hospitalized clients back into the community. Finally, it enhances quality of life for clients in the community struggling with an Eating Disorder by optimizing psychosocial supports, housing and vocational needs.
