Comprehensive Pain Program
"I received such excellent care from your staff under very difficult circumstances. People were knowledgeable, vigilant and competent, but also respectful and kind. I am deeply appreciative of their efforts at such a difficult time." - UHN Patient
The Comprehensive Pain Program is one of the oldest programs in Ontario funded by the Ministry of Health, with inpatient and outpatient facilities devoted to research and management of chronic pain.
Our services:
- Tertiary (specialized) care for difficult chronic pain problems
- Medical and psychological/psychosocial evaluation to correctly diagnose the cause of the pain
- Identification of possible treatments based on what the patient needs and wants
- Outpatient treatment (patients go home the same day) at TWH or at a hospital closer to the patient's home if they live in another community or city
- Inpatient investigation (patients stay in hospital while the health-care team conducts tests and examinations to find out what is causing the patient's pain)
- Continuous follow-up and guidance for patients when necessary
Patients are referred to the program from other physicians throughout the greater Toronto area, other parts of Ontario and other provinces.
