Where Could I Fit In? | HBB Placements | Duties and Responsibilities | Ongoing Training | Getting Started | How do I Apply?

How will I be helped to do my volunteer work well?

A. Formal Training
Because these roles involve significant patient contact, enhanced training is required. This will assist with the HBB volunteers functions, plus provide experience and skills that will be valuable in many other life circumstances for those choosing these roles. However, this level of training and support also demands a time commitment. Prior to taking on these new roles, all applicants must successfully pass the following training modules, in addition to the entry requirements related to Occupational Health & Safety department.:
PMH volunteer orientation (approximately 4 hours)
Healing Beyond the Body training (full day training)
Placement training (occurs during selected shifts within the setting or service chosen by the volunteer)
Attendance at quarterly debriefing meetings

B. Ongoing Support
Leadership volunteers and HBB staff are available for check-ins through individual meetings at the request of the volunteer, both during their shift and between shifts. Staff is also available on-call through pagers whenever volunteers are in the hospital.

To find out more about what volunteer placements are available through the Healing Beyond the Body program, please visit the Placements section of this site.
