Radiation Medicine - Careers in Radiation Therapy
At PMH, the practice of Radiation Medicine combines the roles of advancing the science of cancer treatment and control, outcome-based research, and continuous learning while providing leading edge patient care programs.
Princess Margaret Hospital provides the largest Radiation Medicine Program (RMP) in North America with approximately 7500 treatment courses delivered in 2000/01. The Program is currently undergoing major expansion with an emphasis on Precision Radiotherapy (including Brachytherapy) and Biologically Adapted Radiation Therapy. We currently have 17 bunkers, HDR and LDR/PDR brachytherapy units, dedicated RT imaging including 3 CT Simulators and plans for a MR Simulator. The Radiation Medicine Program's research initiatives are in the areas of IMRT, stereotactic radiotherapy; functional imaging for therapy planning and monitoring including fCT, MRS, high frequency ultrasound; and most recent a major initiative in Robotics for Radiation Therapy.
The Radiation Medicine Program offers a variety of career opportunities for qualified Radiation Therapists in a challenging and supportive environment. Radiation therapy professionals foster personal growth and achievement in a strong academic and research environment. RMP supports radiation therapists interested in advanced studies by actively promoting and facilitating clinical research initiatives, conference organization and participation. Professional development is encouraged through specialized training, in-service education, seminar/conference support and the opportunity to work within a diverse and multidisciplinary team of professionals.
