Notice of Temporary Disruption

The University Health Network will provide accessible services by providing notice on disruptions to service that are usually used by persons with disabilities. This applies to planned or unexpected disruptions.

Procedure for notification of a disruption to services
Temporary service disruptions affecting the provision of University Health Network services will be communicated by the following:

  • Physical Facility Service Interruptions to; washrooms, elevators, doors, entrances, corridors, stairwells, internal and external walkways and driveways, will be communicated by notices posted at the location of the service disruption. (such as on the door of the elevator or washroom).
  •  Local disruptions (e.g. class, information session cancellations) will be communicated directly to those affected.
  • Service, program or clinic closures due to severe weather, disease outbreak and mechanical difficulties (such as power shutdowns) will be posted on the intranet and communicated by a general outgoing message on the main switchboard. 
  • All notices will include information about the reason for the disruption, the expected duration (where known) and a description of alternate facilities or services, if available.
  • Notices communicating a temporary disruption to our service will be:
    • Plain language
    • Arial style
    • At least 24 font size.
    • In high contrast colours such as black and white and easy to read.
  • Notices will be posted in conspicuous locations, including but not limited to, public entrances, information and reception desks, on the website at www.uhn.on.ca, and any other reasonable location under the specific circumstances.
  • Information related to temporary disruption of local services (such as washrooms, elevators) will be available in person and by telephone. Information agents located at the information counters at the hospital entrances will provide verbal information about such services temporarily suspended. If requested and where available a representative from volunteer resources will guide the person to the alternate service available.
